Same Search, Three Different Things
Search for "AI story game" and you'll find services that have almost nothing in common. There are roughly three types.
First, writing tools. Apps that help you write fiction — polish sentences, suggest plot directions. The output is your manuscript.
Second, character chat. You talk one-on-one with a character. Their dialogue comes to you; yours goes back. The output is a conversation log.
Third, story-driven games. A scene unfolds like prose, you decide what happens next, and the story continues. The output is a complete narrative.
When people say "story game," they mostly mean the third kind — something that has both the pleasure of reading and the pleasure of making choices.
Steering a Story
In PLOT, each scene ends with two choices: A or B. That part looks like a gamebook.
But two things are different.
One: the choices aren't pre-written. The AI reads what's happened so far and generates them on the spot. Make different choices from the start and you'll get different options later.
Two: you can ignore the choices entirely. Type what you actually want to do in the input field and the story absorbs it. It's like walking into a page that doesn't exist in the original book.
If a scene goes somewhere you didn't want, you can have it rewritten. If you feel like the story has run its course, request an ending and the AI wraps up the narrative. After the ending, you can keep going if you want.
How It Differs from a Game
There are no levels, stats, or inventories. No win condition. Judgment isn't done by numbers — it's done by the story itself. If a protagonist who's been a coward the whole time suddenly punches out a dragon, the narrative will find that awkward.
