These are different products that get compared a lot. Character.AI is a character chat platform: you pick or build a character and hold an ongoing conversation with it. PLOT is an AI interactive novel: the AI writes narrative prose and you read it, steering with choices or free-text input. One is a relationship; the other is a story. Which one you want decides everything below.
Status note (October 23, 2026): Character.AI's parent company filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026. The company says the service and subscriptions continue while a court-supervised sale runs, expected to finish by late November or early December 2026.

You have a scenario in your head — pick a genre, add a line about it if you like — and you want it written as an actual novel: plot, foreshadowing, an ending when you say so.
