How to Start AI Roleplay — A Beginner's Guide

What Roleplay Is

Roleplay is a form of interaction where you set a situation and a role, then play it out through back-and-forth exchange. Solo or with others, text or voice — the format varies.

AI roleplay means the AI takes the role of other characters in the scene, or runs the whole world as a narrator.

What You Need

Nothing. One setting is enough. If you don't have one, pick from a list of suggestions.

Your First Roleplay — Step by Step

1. Choose a genre or situation

Something short works fine: "modern city, I'm a detective." Or pick a setting — fantasy kingdom, space station, zombie apocalypse — whatever you want.

2. The AI writes the opening scene

A scene appears: the location, the situation, and whoever or whatever is in front of you. That's the start.

3. Decide what to do

Pick from the A/B choices, or type your own action. "Ask the suspect directly" works. So does "slip out the window." The AI folds your move into the next scene.

That's one turn. From there it repeats.

How This Differs from Character AI

If you've done roleplay on a Character AI–style app — that format is one-on-one conversation with a specific character. Story-based roleplay is different. You become the protagonist; the AI runs the entire world. The story builds continuously, and your choices change where it goes.

Both are valid. It depends on what kind of experience you want.
